Tests

Diagnosing wheat allergy and non-celiac gluten sensitivity involves specific tests. For wheat allergy, the skin prick test and blood test are primary tools. In the skin prick test, wheat extract is applied to the skin and pricked; a raised bump indicates an allergic reaction. The blood test measures specific IgE antibodies to wheat proteins. Non-celiac gluten sensitivity is diagnosed through an exclusion diet and symptom diary.
